About Preston Terada
Preston Terada has been creating and designing with Ink Trails as an illustrator, typesetter, graphics artist and photographer for over a decade.

His illustrations are mostly inspired by great comics artist like Jim Lee (Superman, Batman), Michael Turner (Ekos, Soulfire), Alex Ross (Battle of the Planets) and Frank Cho (Liberty Meadows). For his speedy typesetting abilities, he credits JWG advertising, where he claims "you have to work fast in advertising, deadlines are non-negotiable."

Terada's original goal was to become an artist, but the thought of the old saying "the starving artist" made him wonder if art was a good career to pursue. So he began to study architecture in 1992, however after completing collage the industry was already downsizing. So he started a t-shirt company in 1993, then Ink Trails in 1994. "It was a good move, no more stocking shirts!" he exclaimed.

Lastly, his photography skills, he credits Mark Hamasaki (his collage photography teacher), wedding photographer Barry Maier, Dorian (Bobo) Pai, and Lester Miyashiro for teaching and inspiring him.

As for success, he says "I don't really know how to measure success...is it the size of your bank account? Because if it is, I have a long road ahead of me. However if it's the number of folks I've befriended and all who supported me throughout the years...then I'm very successful" he goes on to credit "Dr. Trey, Flip Mcdairmid, Aarron Kimura, TC Chun, Carol Yoshioka and Cindy Lance. There's so much more people, but these are a few who have become life long friends.

When asked if he has any advice for other people who may want to get in the art field - "People have to realize that art isn't what it used to be. Thanks to the computer, it's a right brain, left brain thing. You need to be accurate in your measurements and have mechanical design technics just as much as the ability to create. Lastly, never forget those who have supported you."
